Wikipedia: the Front Page of the Internet

Wikipedia is often the front page of the internet when you are searching for answers about something. Do educators and students have a responsibility to make the site accurate? There is currently a project where instead of term papers, students are writing and correcting Wikipedia articles on the internet. While students learn critical thinking and gain writing ability, the sites credibility is strengthened as well.

The Wiki Education Foundation has been handling the project for about three years. Approximately two hundred schools have started to add editing Wikipedia into their curriculum. The schools include UC Berkeley, Harvard, Duke, George Washington and New York University. So far about 35,000 articles have been completed. This year the focus is on science, and specifically on women in science that are underrepresented on the site.

  1. The goal is to have the academic community stop writing off the site as illegitimate, and fix it, making it better for all as a reliable source of knowledge. People will use it to learn no matter what, so the site needs to be accurate in the information it provides. I think that is the best custom research paper writing and will always continue to be the best.
